This morning I took notice of George's interest at the back door, with his pointing and excited mannerisms! At first I thought we had wild Turkey's visiting our backyard again, but found out I was mistaken when I saw Fawn ears and then a head pop up into our view. It was pretty awesome! We snuck upstairs to peer down at it covertly, and the both of us grinned as we peered down at it munching away and constantly jerking at attention as it's ears were doing radar readings by rotating this way and that.
Later downstairs, we ran into it's mother and the fawn itself in the designated "boys room" window, as they fed and explored their way around the house. George echoed the word "deer!" as I did (not all animals are 'doggies' I'm trying to teach him, but so far all large vehicles are and always will be firetrucks), and I was happy he could then place the visual and word of "deer poop" with the proper animal, as I've been teaching him not to pick up the many deer pellets around our property! He loves to throw rocks into trees and bushes, down hills and in puddles, but please please not deer poop!
Anyway, it was so special to see the mother and baby deer so close! The saw us, but didn't run, so I hope they feel as safe as they can on our property and we develop some mutual trust!
